In my book, GROUNDS FOR MURDER, heroine Lana Lewis is a coffee lover whose family owns a café on a beautiful Florida island in the Gulf of Mexico.
She bakes treats to sell to her customers, but they all have only a handful of ingredients.
In writing my book, this is where I drew on my own preferences and experiences to create my character. I love simple recipes. Because I have a day job and write fiction, it’s not like there’s a ton of time left over for much else. But my husband often gets that puppy-dog look and says, “did you make anything sweet?”
My favorite thing to make is three-ingredient Nutella brownies. Flour, eggs, Nutella. Boom! You have a tray of amazing brownies.
THREE INGREDIENT NUTELLA BROWNIES
INGREDIENTS (This is so simple that I promise this will be your go-to recipe!)
1 and 1/4 cups Nutella, microwaved until soft and gooey (about 30 seconds)
2 large eggs + 1 large egg yolk. These should be room temperature.
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 350. Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper. Or you can grease the pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the gooey Nutella and all the eggs until smooth.
- Gently fold in the flour until everything is combined. It will be thick!
- Pour the batter into the pan, then bake for 20 – 25 minutes. The center should not jiggle or wiggle, and a toothpick or knife should come out almost clean.
- Allow to cool completely in the pan before eating (yeah, right).
- Enjoy with coffee and a good book!
