Happy Wednesday from Cheryl. Today is National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day!
I’m celebrating by remembering that I used to buy a small package of these in the movie theater way back when we were still going to the movies. Raisinets were born in 1927 at the Blumenthal Brothers Chocolate Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Known now as a vintage candy, the raisins are made with Thompson Seedless raisins grown in California.
There are now some brands made with dark chocolate – my preference. When I can’t find them in my local candy store, I order them on-line.
We’re so lucky to have a local candy store in downtown St. Petersburg. Rocket Fizz is located at 668 Central and claims to be a Soda Pop and Candy shop. They’re my first stop for vintage and foreign candy treats.
Popular recipes for Raisinets include homemade trail mix, oatmeal cookies, and stuffed in raspberries for a charcuterie board treat.
I like to have a package in the mid-afternoon while I’m trying to complete my target word count. That little bit of sweetness helps me get through that last push.
Do you have a favorite snack?
