Summer is a time for relaxation, for laziness, for zoning out.

But we also want to read! We have book goals and towering TBR piles. There are stories to consume.

I’ve been fighting these two warring feelings this summer. It’s hot in Florida, seemingly more so than in past summers. I wilt in mid-day, and chop up my work time to morning and evening, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for reading.

Which leaves me feeling guilty about not reading more. My solution: audiobooks. Right before the sun sets—usually when the afternoon rain showers are tapering off, leaving the air cool and misty—I head to my local park with my ear buds. As I walk, I listen to audiobooks, becoming totally captivated by the story.

For some reason, listening to an audiobook allows me to become immersed in a story in a different way than reading. I guess this shouldn’t come as a surprise; I used to be a radio reporter and seem to recall details better if I hear them first.

I’m especially attracted to mysteries and domestic thrillers on audio. Right now I’m listening to You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Other audiobooks I’ve loved have been the Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke, My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell, and Lucky You by Carl Hiaasen.

To celebrate my love of audiobooks, I’d like to give away a copy of GROUNDS FOR MURDER in audio! On Aug. 1, I’ll choose one person and send them a free code for the audiobook. To be eligible, tell me in the comments whether you listen to audiobooks, and if so, about your last five star listen. Good luck!

  1. Love Audiobooks!
Am currently listening to and reviewing The Great Witches Baking Baking Show series by Nancy Warren narrated by Hollis McCarthy!
A truly fabulous cozy mystery series!

  2. I love audiobooks! I listen in the car, and when I’m cleaning my barn. Makes time go faster. I loved the “Murder in a…” series by Sara Rosett.

  3. Yes, I love listening to audio books. I have 1044 in my uk audible library and have reviewed most of them. I listen everyday and prefer it to reading because I can do other things at the same time.
I have a wide listening taste from mysteries, thrillers, suspense, paranormal, sy-fi, super heros, romance but my favourite is cozy mysteries.
There are far to many good books out there with five stars that I just gave you a list of the last five books that I reviewed.
Murder at the magic cake cafe by Rose Reed
Picture imperfect by Lisa B. Thomas
A wedding and a killing by Lauren Carr
    Marshals Maroon by Track Andrighetti
The muddy course by Diane Weiner.

  4. Love audiobooks. Last five star was Fireworks, Forensics and Felonies by Colleen Mooney as a cozy mystery. Serious book in audio was Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

  5. Hi there!
I’m a fellow Floridian as well – and I must say that audiobooks are a must for me as well!
I hardly ever make the time anymore to dive into a physical book anymore (you can tell by my dusty bookshelf). Audiobooks allow me to zone out and use my imagination in an all over mind and body experience – something to 100% give a chance to if you have not already!
I would say my 5-star audiobook award would go to Rachel Hollis for her – “Girl Stop Apologizing” – that one completely blew me away!

  6. I absolutely love audiobooks… I usually listen to 4 or 5 a week! My last 5 star listen was Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen.

  7. I love to listen to audiobooks. I tend to listen to books more now. I am currently listening to Victoria Dannan. midlife series. I’ve also lists to many others

  8. I realize I’m too late for the giveaway but just wanted to add my two cents! I’m addicted to audible books as I can listen while doing other things! I try to keep up with my paper and kindle reads but more often than not I’m engrossed in a audible cozy!!
