Cheryl here with a few snaps from a visit to the Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement
The long-awaited opening of St. Petersburg’s newest world-class museum was a fantastic experience for me and my husband. For me, museums are a primary source of inspiration for my writing.
We’ve been waiting for this one to open since they announced the purchase of the land in 2014, with an expected opening in 2017. Well, there have been a few bumps in the road, but it is well worth the wait. Like our Dali Museum, the building itself is a work of art.
There is a soothing modern garden space that greets you before you enter the museum. I loved the soothing sound of the fountain near the patch of flowers. The benches invited you to spend a few moments appreciating the city view.
Your first look at the completely open five-story atrium is spectacular. The circular stairway is stunning. The custom craftsmanship is perfectly aligned with the Arts & Crafts Movement.
All this before we’ve even seen a single exhibit. We’ve decided to go back at least once a week exploring the museum one floor at a time. Oh, I almost forgot – they have a library!
Do you have a favorite local museum?
