Brick and mortar small businesses are what give a place its uniqueness. Think about visiting a little beach town and finding an all things nautical and beach store. Isn’t that the best? The Florida Keys have lots of little shops like that—which reminds me I need to take a day trip down there soon! Maybe I can arrange for a book signing at Books & Books @ The Studio.
Don’t you love finding a great coffee shop or bakery with a little sidewalk cafe? Miami has lots of little neighborhoods with great eats. Upper Buena Vista is one of those places. You can stroll, sip, and shop. Or catch some live music. Miracle Mile in Coral Gables is another great place to find local businesses shoulder to shoulder with larger names. Books & Books has their original store there. A few miles from the Gables is Coconut Grove. It is super packed on Sundays as it is a brunch destination. They also have several outdoor festivals throughout the year like the Art Festival.
Miami Shores has a great cluster of independent shops and restaurants: Tinta y Cafe, Flight Wine Lounge, Pebble & Vine, and Mima’s Market. I found an incredible cream at Mima’s just the other day. It smells so great and my skin is now super soft.
I could go on and on listing the micro-neighborhoods in Miami that have gems. But sometimes writing deadlines keep me home-bound. Thank goodness for the internet which allows me to find and support Florida indie businesses like Ebonii’s Moon. If you are a letter writer or a sticker and stamp person, you will love her stuff. I recently ordered from her and I appreciate the care and detail she puts into her products.
Do you have a favorite Florida small business? Is there an independent coffee shop or bookstore you love? Tell me about them! Drop a link in the comments!

Hi Raquel, Eboniii’s Moon sounds absolutely charming. I have an independent book store about three blocks from my condo, Book + Bottle. The have a fabulous assortment of both books and wine. LOVE IT.
“Southie’s” at Portobello Square in Seminole is drawing attention for good food, a variety of coffees and teas and even plenty of gluten-free goodies. It’s become quite the “hangout” for local writers and its not unusual to see the mayor there. I thought at first the name meant “South Boston” but the owners are from South America!
