Florida Fun: St. Pete Pier

Florida Fun: St. Pete Pier

St. Petersburg, Florida, has a brand new attraction! It’s the St. Pete Pier right smack on the waterfront and ready to welcome one and all.

A huge statue greets visitors at the entry. “Myth” is an origami pelican acting as a perch for two painted models. Nathan Mabry of Los Angeles created this origami-style art installation of the city bird. It is 10-foot-high and fabricated from thick aluminum plate metal and coated with a bright red satin painted finish.

A short walk further down the pier brings you to another art installation that will mesmerize you for hours. Internationally renowned artist and Tampa Bay native Janet Echelman has created one of her famous billowing net sculptures to dazzle Pier visitors. “Bending Arc” measures a massive 76 feet at its highest point and 428 feet at its widest and is perpetually in motion with the wind.
