Florida Fun: Western Art Museum

St. Petersburg, Florida, has a ton of museums. That’s good because that’s where I fill my creative well after a long day of writing the next Webb’s Glass Shop Mystery. My favorite is The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art. The galleries are filled with artwork from living artists frequently invited to give lectures and promote their work.

This week you can virtually visit with artist Lynn Manos and James Museum docent Helen Huntley for a lively chat about the bold geometric of Tammy Garcia. A member of the Santa Clara Pueblo, Garcia comes from a long line of renowned women potters. The signup link is: https://thejamesmuseum.org/eventarchive/clay-to-bronze-the-art-of-tammy-garcia/

The bronze works are incredible. This one examines you at the entrance to make sure patrons are masked before you enter. Whatever Wild Bill Hickock asks of you, you would be wise to comply.

The entry hallway features a beautiful bronze of a young brave and his new bride in front of a cascading waterfall. It serves as the backdrop for live entertainment. A few steps away is The Canyon Cafe for a refreshing draft brew – perfect!

If you’re looking for a cozy tropical mystery, my Webb’s Glass Shop Mysteries are all set along Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, Florida. Independent bookstores need your help during this challenging time. Buy Local.
