Potluck: Cat Person or Dog Person?

Tara here. I was not always a dog person. For many decades, I was definitely a cat lady. I had a giant tabby named Cookie. I adored that cat, and he was with me from my first journalism job in my mid-twenties to my job at the Associated Press in my early forties.

When he went over the Rainbow Bridge, I was bereft.

That’s when my husband and I pondered whether we should shake things up and get a dog. We ended up with the most cat-like breed possible, a Tibetan Spaniel. As a puppy he was so quiet and gracefully calm that I half expected him to purr.

Then, a friend had a litter of Shih Tzu puppies and brought them over to visit. My husband fell in love with one little nugget, and that’s how we ended up with Gigi. I assumed small dogs would be dainty and fussy. Gigi is like a tank in a tiny dog’s body.

And now, I’ve incorporated both of their giant personalities into the dog in my series. Stanley the Shih Tzu plays a big role in the Coffee Lover’s Mystery Series, and I can’t wait to write him into more adventures.

Do you prefer dog or cat cozies? I personally love both!
