Florida Fun: Baseball

Florida Fun: Baseball

Tara here. I am not a sports ball fan, and neither is my husband. He’s from Italy so he loves any sport with wheels: bicycling, Formula One and motorcycles.

But when my vaccinated best friend and her husband came to town, we decided to leave our comfort zone and take in a baseball game with them at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The Rays are the hometown team, and they were playing Houston.

From our socially-distanced pod, we chatted and watched the game. Then my BFF and I donned our masks and went searching for a decadent treat to share with our hubbies.

We ended up at Beans and Barlour, a local café that has an outpost at the ballpark. Even though I haven’t been eating much sugar, I decided to splurge on a vegan milkshake. We had the option of getting it with or without alcohol, and I decided to get it without.

Reader friends, it was the best thing I’ve consumed in a year. It tasted like a liquid Snickers bar. The base was a vegan vanilla ice cream, mixed with caramel and peanut butter. It was topped with nondairy whipped cream, Cracker Jacks, and a baseball-shaped lollipop.

A definite home run. Try one next time you’re in St. Pete!

  1. I really don’t know what to make of that concoction. Your description sounds great. And I am sure I’d like it. But I am still trying to wrap my head around how it looks.
