Raquel: Birthday Fun

Raquel: Birthday Fun

It’s my birthday this week! And although I don’t have anything major planned, I do have a few fun treats. To be honest, most of them have to do with food. Duh, I write culinary cozies after all.

Yesterday, I had lunch at a taco place that a lot of foodie-folk have been talking about. My partner and I ordered three different kind: carnitas, al pastor, and pulpo al grill. We both agreed the carnitas were our favorite with the octopus (pulpo) coming in a strong second. Usually, I am all about the al pastor taco because there is something delicious about the marinated grilled pork with the sweetness of the pineapple that is divine. And to end the meal we had churros. Fresh! Hot! UNBELIEVABLY GOOD CHURROS!

Today, the plan is to go to the Jamaican one-stop/ bodega near us. I’m hoping they have fresh chicken curry patties and roti (with anything) but I’d also be very happy with curried goat. I’ll try and update this with photos.

UPDATE: Yes,they had roti! I had it with goat curry and we got patties for later. Delicious.

Then tomorrow on my actual birthday, I think I’ll have Cuban food. I’ve been wanted to try this place in SW Miami that is know for their croquetas. There is nothing better than a fresh from the fryer croqueta.

Then Friday I think I’ll go lighter and have ceviche with a trip to the beach to dip my toes in the ocean.

UPDATE: We skipped Cuban and went straight for ceviche. We splurged and ordered the chef’s special. Three types of ceviche, lobster claws, mussels, langostino, and tostones. It was delicious and decadent.

All of that mouthwatering gluttony will be accompanied by lottery scratch-offs and sparkling wine. Sounds like a perfect birthday week to me. What indulgences and treats do you look forward to on your birthday? Comment below.
